Williamsburg, Brooklyn: Poolaid, a community group dedicated to keeping McCarren Pool open and accessible to everyone, is proud to announce the launch of our new video, "We are the Pool." Starring members of Nada Surf, Maplewood, The Loser's Lounge, Career Club, Breakup Breakdown, The Redcoats are Coming, Naked Highway, and The Giraffes, the video is a loving spoof of the "We are the World" video made in 1984 for USA for Africa.
The video is intended to draw attention to the situation with McCarren Pool here in Williamsburg. Poolaid wants to encourage our community to learn more about the pool and to let the Parks Department and our elected officials know what they want done with the pool. We want the pool to be for the people! Keep Live Nation and other corporate interests from putting on for-profit events in our pool.

...hoary old bastards* - check out the results of Tris McCall's annual Reader's Poll. I didn't vote this year because I apparently didn't listen to much music that was made in 2006. I was still catching up from 2005. BUT, I did download the winner in the album category the other day and, despite a longstanding hatred of all things Belle and Sebastian, I really like it! * I realize now that this post reads like I'm calling Tris a hoary old bastard. Not intended! Every year he includes the ever-entertaining category "Hoary old bastard who should spare us all and retire" in his poll. Rod Stewart is always the winner and rightly so.

I love Your Song by Elton John and despise post-1971 Rod Stewart so you can imagine my disgust when I heard Rod the Mod covering said song. Why? Why, Rod? Why must you put your stamp on so many classic songs? Without fail your versions are far inferior to the originals. Stop! Please. You're a hoary old bastard who simply needs spare us all and retire.
